an innocent request. a heart warming moment.

What was an average after work day, with the evening routine of dinner, bath time, reading and worship time, turned out to be one of the most beautiful nights with my toddler. We were both enjoying each others company when she asked..’Mummy can you draw me here?’ using one of those sketch boards, she handed it over to me, waiting in anticipation for mummy to draw her! Given that drawing was never really my thing, I hesitated! and said…’maybe you can draw you?, mummy can’t draw!’

But she refused. And then asked…’mummy can you draw us? you and me? please mummy? like when we play together…?’ and at that point, my heart sank. I stopped and wondered what I was going to say next? But at the point, I didn’t say a thing. I picked up the sketching pencil and drew US. Because that was what my little girl wanted. Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset So here is my masterpiece! Sweet! I looked at it and burst into laughter and said ‘sorry bubby, mummy can’t draw, this is the best I can do!’…but what she said next, is what warmed my heart.

‘That is very beautiful mummy, just like you and me, and when we go together, we wear a pretty dress, and hold hands’…’Thank you mummy…’

Being the sooky mummy I am, I had tears welling up at the corner of my eyes. Really, what was I fretting about with this request? This girl wasn’t going to judge me..she just wanted me to draw for her. That’s all. Nothing more. All she wanted was for her mummy to draw and spend time with her. And I am glad I did just that.

So it was a good night. Needless to say, I better start brushing up on my drawing! Next request could be more challenging…like ‘mummy can you draw a picture of daddy?’…Not sure what will become of that image!

What has your little one done or said recently that just shows how innocent they are? Share you special moments if you would like to…these babies are just special, aren’t they?

LAS stylefile: how I wore, what I wore?

The cool change has now  set into Melbourne. The days are getting shorter and the nights come too soon. I do love the change that comes with winter, the layering, getting all rugged up sitting in front of the telly a little bit more, hot soups! green tea, chocolates, and the rest that go with it. BUT what I don’t do well with is the lack of colour. My brains just don’t really like it. The grey, the way of dealing with this problem of mine? bringing some colour into my wardrobe. I know the darker colours seem to always creep in by autumn/winter, and same way it does into my wardrobe, but I try to keep a little colour going somewhere, somehow…

So, last week, I did some online retail therapy, just a wardrobe update really! And got me self some pretty things, I visited the blue bungalow site, and went clicking. Rest assured, the pretty parcel arrived very soon after, and some lovely new pieces added to the racks!

I sported their beautiful jersey tunic in the Chartreuse, which can be seen here. It was bright, bold and beautiful. The shorter front and longer back length made it perfect to be worn with a pair of leggings for me (perfect for women that are a little heavier on the bottom half). The sleeves can be worn at full length or ruffled up to half way when indoors and it is slightly warmer. The loose fit allows for a relaxed feel and make it comfortable to run around in, for some work or for mummy duties.

I also paired it with a beautiful animal print scarf, which I purchased a while back from Myer, similar ones still available. Brought my ever so faithful Mimco leather bag out, and to keep warm and dry, I put on a pair of Jane Debster knee-high boots in brown from Sandler, purchased last winter, but you may like something similar here.

Off I went for a work meet, then to run some errands. And those colours? made me a very happy girl…:)

How do you cope with the darker winter colours? Leave me some ideas below, I would love to hear.

Lifeastyled Two Ways Thursdays..

Hi everyone!

It’s that time of the week again, so off to another post for #lifeastyledtwowaysthursdays

Today I am sporting a beautiful cotton dress from a very lovely store in Melbourne, Jfahri. Bought this on sale at their recent Spend and Save promotion.

dress: Jfahri (Melbourne)

As I picked up this piece a couple of weeks ago, we were already into autumn and here in Melbourne, autumn can be very tricky to dress. The cooler days are cold, and the not so cold days are still cool with a hint of sun. So there you go, confused yet? Yes, it is a little bit odd like that. But what I loved about it was the fact that this dress screamed versatile right from the start! And the price was too good to give it a miss. And I am glad I brought it home, because it has been out and about a few times already in a very short few days.

Style 1: A day out with family and friends.

Comfort is key for me when I am out with family. And this dress has just that. The stretch in this dress is great, and its fit perfect. It’s slightly snug around the bodice, but nice and flowy from waist below. The stripes also gives a beautiful illusion as the lower half have diagonal stripes leading inwards to the centre meeting in the middle, which has a thinning effect. So there you go, not all stripes are bad 🙂 I’ve paired it with a fur vest, a bold matte gold block coloured necklace and a pair of tan boots, to break up the monochrome. Also perfect for an outing with friends, to the movies, coffee, playdates.

Style 2: Off to work I go.

Because it is such a versatile piece, I decided to take it to work with me. Layered it with a black blazer, and added a statement necklace with a little hint of peach and grey, again to break the ‘too much of black and white’ look. This time, I went with a metallic silver pair of heels. These shoes are so comfortable thanks to the inverted pyramid heel, which means more stability and added thickness for support, making it a suitable pair for work.

As you can see, the black and whites are making its way into my wardrobe, and am now consciously adding colour to make sure I don’t do too much of the darker colours all at once.

See ya, lifeastylers!

I baked. I usually do ‘all in the pack, ready to go’. this time…the real thing!

So I must admit, I am not a baker. The only thing I’ve baked in the past? Fish, chicken, pasta..and those ‘all in a box, ready to bake’ kind of cakes. And yes they’ve all been pretty pleasant to eat, but this time I thought I shall take on the real challenge. The bake from scratch challenge!

You see we are having an easter lunch at a friend’s place tomorrow, and since she had all the mains sorted, I thought I’ll do dessert. Plus, this is something I told myself a couple of years ago in preparation for motherhood, that I should start baking! Why? Because I wouldn’t want my little girl taking those ‘ready made’ cakes to school in her lunch box! Dear oh dear…the pressure. Anyhow, that aside, I think it’s high time, me in my mature adulthood, master this very important domestic skill.

Flipped through some cookbooks, and yes I remember I had purchased the Australian Women’s Weekly Baking Day book last year, because I think the pictures and the cover was very pretty! Pretty shelf material! Surely there’s someone out there like me who buy cookbooks because they have pretty pictures? 🙂

recipe. and what the end product should look like. oh yeah…

Picked a simple one, not more than 7 ingredients. What an electric mixer required? Nah, me and my whipper should be able to do the job…Yes with much effort! Followed the recipe to the tee! so hoping tomorrow, during showtime, I will not disappoint. Going to serve these babies warm with some lovely ice-cream. It will either complement or mask the taste. Either way, am sure it will be yum!

the end product. banana blueberry cakes.

Do you bake? Do you do it because you love to? Or because of the pressure society places on you as a mom or a woman? Share your thoughts below. I would sincerely love to know I am not the only one that’s starting off with this skill at this point in my life! 🙂

Thanks for stopping by! have a safe and lovely easter…

that moment when you realise all blessings are from above..I give thanks.

Today has been a great day. A tiring and long one, starting with the little one in the morning. The usual. Then off to a styling session I go. A happy client makes a happy stylist. Then off to the clinic where I take off my stylist hat and put on my doctor one. At 7.30pm, happy patients make a happy doctor.

A long day it has been, but the very many happy smiles I had the privilege of seeing and sharing, made me stop to think. We are put in certain places, doing certain things for a reason. My legs might be killing me, but my heart is a happy place.

blessed to be a blessing.

So to all of you out there, that put in relentless effort in whatever it is you do, just remember, you are in a certain job, time, place or situation for a reason. It may be that you are meant to be a blessing to someone else, whether through your smile, your words or deeds. Be blessed, as all good things are from above. With a contented heart, I give thanks.

Share below if you have something to be thankful for today. I would love to learn from all of you, my lovely readers…

I don’t go shopping anymore…

Lately, I have been feeling quite blah when it comes to shopping. Why I have asked myself. I am usually quite spontaneous when it comes to including something new into my wardrobe, or accessory collection. But lately, its been a little different. Is it me just turning a year older and a year wiser? After recently moving homes, I have also begin to wonder if I really need all that stuff…(you know the kind of guilt or remorse you go through when you de-clutter?). Am I realising that I only need a few pieces of clothing or accessory to exist?

After much thought, to be honest I haven’t quite got an idea why this is happening. So lets call this WISDOM…for now at least!

But I thought since this has hit me, I will no longer call it ‘going out shopping’. Maybe, and just maybe if I gave it a different name, it might all change. So I  officially called my shopping trips to ‘going out for some inspiration!’ And I road tested this…

And the outcome is pretty amazing! Now, I find myself looking at things and stopping to think; Do I need it? What can I do with it? How else can I make it work? And I am not as impulsive which gives me a little bit more time to look around, compare and make a decision. Walah! So, perhaps it is a little bit of wisdom thats come with age…

Now, even Mr LifeAStyled  would not have to worry too much when I tell him I am wondering aimlessly in the malls, because really its not aimless shopping, any purchase I make is simply because I found my inspiration. And that’s a good thing…isn’t it?

Have you had a time when you’ve found yourself walking aimlessly in the malls feeling quite blah when you’ve usually been quite a good shopper?

Leave me your thoughts below…And cheers to being inspired!

Starting with a blank canvas in her room…

Ahhhh, the joy of motherhood, never a dull moment hey? It’s moving day and my 2-year-old LO is now going to have her own little space. Or should I say now daddy and mummy will have theirs back. Whichever  it may be, it is never easy. This is something we thought we might have done sooner, but there was never a right time. And I still don’t think there is a right time for the move into her own room. But given that she has been with us for two years now, and moving homes, we figured, it may be a good move to settle her into her own space. The feeling is a confusing one, half of me says its time to do it, and half of me goes, maybe another short while. Here is me just hoping maybe we can have half night in hers and half the morning in ours. We’ll see.

SO of course, mummy’s creative juices are spilling over! Woohooo, time to get a girlie room going. So we are starting with a blank canvas. Bought that little wall hanging from Gold Coast, and that’s going to be up soon. The words caught my attention straight away, as it rings so true. Will there ever be enough love for my little one? To me, these words simply reflect how vast a mothers love is, and how unconditional it can be. I hope my little one will look at these words daily and simply realise her daddy and mummy will always love her, no matter what it takes. Because, we will love you sweetheart to the moon and back. So the decorating continues…

Would love to hear how other moms and dads did this move of their LO, when and how did it go? Any tips?
